Witnessing Whiteness with Kristopher Norris
March 11, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Dr. Kristopher Norris, visiting professor at Virginia Theological Seminary, will discuss his new book “Witnessing Whiteness: Confronting White Supremacy in the American Church.” Can “mainstream” theology, largely by white theologians, witness to its own culture of Whiteness, and thereby its complicity in a system of maintaining white supremacy? Specifically, Dr. Norris will investigate the signs of white supremacy in major white theologians and critique them in light of liberation voices and ethics. Opportunity to engage the author will be part of the evening. Faculty and staff of the WTC and co-sponsors are invited.

He is the author of Witnessing Whiteness: Confronting White Supremacy in America’s Churches (Oxford University Press, 2020) and currently serves as the Kreitler Visiting Professor of Environmental Ethics at Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, VA. Previously he taught ethics and public theology at Wesley theological Seminary. His research focuses on politics, race, and moral formation in Christian community.
